Caravaggio in Rome

On this tour we follow the footsteps of the painter Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, better known just as „Caravaggio “, who arrived in the eternal city at the end of the 16th century, stayed here only for a few years, but changed the style in painting for ever, by introducing the naturalism he had acquired in northern Italy, before he had to suddenly leave, after having committed a murder. We will find some of his works, like the paintings with the stories of Matthew in the church of Saint Louis of the French, his first public commission that marked the beginning of his amazing career, still in the chapel they were meant for. We will also learn more about his difficult character and “scandalous” life style by visiting the places where he lived and that became the theatre of various incidents that contributed to the “black legend”, which was forged about him mainly by envious colleagues like Giovanni Baglione, one of his first biographers.  (Duration 3 hours.)
