Early Christian mosaics: The Basilicas of Santa Maria Maggiore, Santa Prassede e Santa Pudenziana

The first Christian churches were built in the architectural shape of a „basilica “, and very soon provided with beautiful mosaic decorations. Not all of these survived, but on the Esquiline Hill we find three churches of extraordinary beauty where we can still admire them: the papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major, the Basilica of Santa Prassede and the Basilica of Santa Pudenziana. (Duration 3 hours.)
